Blessings come from God! – Dr. Paul Dhinakaran
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17)
There is a saying, ‘Expectations bring disappointments’. I do not know how true this statement is because I only expect from my heavenly Father who bestows upon me perfect gifts, from above. Expecting things from people might bring disappointments. That is why we should look to our God who is the Giver of all good things. We see how the Psalmist says about this in Psalm 118:9. “It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes”. Yes we should trust the Lord and receive blessings from Him. We should not run to people. Jesus also says about the Heavenly Father like this: “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11).
There was a small boy who was very pious and trusted God for everything. But he was so poor and in need of many things. He said to another boy, “I have been praying for these blessings but I have not yet received it”, and the other boy who never believed in God replied, “If you have been praying so much, then God will answer you and He should be speaking to somebody to help you.” Then this little boy was dismayed and he said, “Yes! God must have spoken to people, but they are not listening. If they had heard from Him, they would have bought gifts to me.”
Many a time, you may pray to God like this little boy for your blessings and ultimately look for help from people. That is why your blessings are delayed sometimes. Remember that every blessing which is received by you comes from God above. He promises you to give good and perfect gifts and He will not change His word. God expects you to trust Him, believe in Him and experience His power. Trust in God and in God alone. Have you noticed shadows? They shift from morning to evening based on the direction of the light. The Bible says that our God does not shift like shifting shadows. So He does not change as days go by or His mood does not change based on what we do. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous (Matthew 5:45). He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). He will always bless us with good things much more than our earthly parents. We can always have our hope on Him and we will not be disappointed.
Prayer:
Loving Lord,
I thank You for the word of blessing You have spoken to me today. You will give me the right and perfect gift at the right time. Give me the grace to receive it with patience and gratitude. Help me to be good to everyone like You. Give me grace to not to look to men. I trust in You alone. Thank You for You do not change like shifting shadows so You will bless as You have blessed me earlier. Do miracles for me Lord.
This I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
